Why EMDR Therapy?
EMDR Therapy Los Angeles
At our luxury facility, we not only provide clients with a picturesque estate and a top-rated treatment center in Beverly Hills, but also with treatment options that utilize some of the most advanced and scientifically based holistic therapies.
One such therapy is EMDR therapy.
EMDR therapy, or “eye movement desensitization and reprocessing,” is a way to reprocess negative memories associated with traumatic events so that you can understand the truth of those events and how they may currently affect your actions, and reprocess those memories so they are resolved in a healthy fashion. Doing so can help you better understand the ways you have reacted to previous trauma, gain resolution, and build your confidence.
EMDR therapy is primarily used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder and is considered the primary therapy for veterans experiencing PTSD. The World Health Organization and the U.S. The Department of Veterans Affairs endorses EMDR as an approach to PTSD treatment. However, it can also be used to treat anxiety, major depressive disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, and adjustment disorders.
You Have the Power to Change
What to Expect from EMDR
EMDR therapy stands apart from traditional talk therapy in that you, as the client, don’t have to sit and talk about your traumatic experiences. For many people with multiple traumatic events in their past, the idea of sitting in a room and discussing those events in detail can be daunting.
With EMDR, you instead simply focus on the memories in your mind without having to discuss them out loud while following a series of side-to-side eye motions as indicated by your therapist.
The therapist is there to trigger things like lateral eye movements using handheld devices or bilateral sounds via headphones so that you are able to retrain the way your brain stores those memories.

What are the Benefits of EMDR?
EMDR therapy, Los Angeles-based, offers many benefits, primarily the ability to work through trauma in a way other than simply talking about it, and in a way that offers faster results compared to traditional talk therapy.
People who have experienced a single traumatic event will see benefits in as few as 3-6 sessions, whereas people with multiple traumatic events might see benefits in as few as 8-12 sessions.
Each of these sessions typically lasts 60 minutes and is structured to cover eight different phases.
Memories
The biggest benefits of Los Angeles-based EMDR therapy are changing the way your brain stores memories. Under normal circumstances, when an event happens to you, like going to the mall or having dinner with your family, your brain will store that memory in a seamless fashion, committing it from short-term to long-term.
However, if that trip to the mall involved an unexpected gunman or that dinner with your family involved domestic violence, that memory storage process gets disrupted, and that means you cannot heal from your trauma correctly because the memory wasn’t properly stored.
Triggers
When memories are incorrectly stored, it means that you are more likely to experience triggers, and each trigger reinforces that negative experience.
If, for example, you are now an adult in an otherwise healthy relationship and your partner suggests having dinner with their family, that might create a neural link to your previous traumatic dinner and thus reinforce things like anxiety and depression that you experience.
This can lead you to go out of your way to avoid family dinners or avoid anything that might reinforce that negativity, even if you don’t realize it.
With EMDR therapy, you can put a stop to those new neural links that reinforce your injury, reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, or PTSD and reducing the need to avoid new experiences.
During an EMDR session, for example, you might be asked to think about that dinner, bring to your mind the smells in the room, the sounds, or the environment. After reprocessing that memory in a healthy fashion, you might learn that you no longer have overwhelming panic or anxiety at the suggestion of scalloped potatoes and green beans, which were served the night of your traumatic experience.
